MAIN TASKS OF THE FEDERATION
Principle mission of the Czech Orienteering Federation (COF) is the care of the development of all the aspects of orienteering sports in the Czech Republic. COF observes primarily the following main tasks:
a) To organize and to regulate orienteering (O-), ski-orienteering (Ski-O) and mountain-bike-orienteering (MTB-O) competitions.
b) To nominate national teams and to care of Czech representation in O, Ski-O and MTB-O competitions of all age classes, to ensure participation in World O, Ski-O and MTB-O Championships.
c) To care of youth education and training, including the training of the most apt individuals to reach the highest sport performance.
d) To enact rules of O, Ski-O and MTB-O valid in the Czech Republic.
e) To support sport for everyone by organizing simple o-events for interested beginners as well as for those who go in for sport only occasionally.
f) To develop and to promote methods of training and pursuing O, Ski-O and MTB-O in elite and competitive sport as well as in the form of sport for everyone.
g) To train technical directors, controllers, coaches and mappers for all the forms of orienteering.
h) To conduct geodesic and cartographic activities for the needs of orienteering sports.
FEDERATION MEMBERS
COF embodies about 220 clubs and altogether more than 8 000 members. The number of registered athletes exceeds 6 500 for O, 600 for Ski-O and 300 for MTB-O.
INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
Czech Orienteering Federation is one of the constituent members of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF), ranking all the time among the most successful nations in the world of orienteering. On World Orienteering Championships that took place so far, members of Czech/Czechoslovak national teams won altogether 18 medals (2-5-11); World Champions 1991 being Petr Kozak and Jana Cieslarova and the most famous Czech orienteer being Jana Galikova with a sum of 7 WOC medals. Czech Republic won also 3 bronze medals in ski-orienteering and 3 silver medals in MTBO World championships. Czech orienteers were successful on Junior World Championships in all of these o-sports as well.

MAJOR COMPETITIONS CONDUCTED BY COF
Orienteering:
Czech Championships are held in the following disciplines: long distance, middle distance, ultra-long distance, sprint, night orienteering, relay and club-teams.
The main long term competitions are the Czech Cup for men and women and A-Ranking for youth.
Other important competitions are: continuous Ranking for men and women, Czech Relay Cup and Czech League of Clubs.
Ski-orienteering:
Czech Championships are held in the following disciplines: long distance, middle distance, sprint and relay.
The main long term competition for men and women is the Elite Cup, for other classes the A-Ranking; Czech Championships of Clubs take place during the whole season, too.
MTB-Orienteering:
Champions' titles are competed for in the following disciplines: long distance, middle distance, ultra-long distance, sprint, free-order and relay. The national long term competition is called Czech MTB-O Cup.
